Project details

The project aims to transform two squares in the city of Palmi. These two adjacent squares, currently separated by a busy road, host two distinct centers: the “De Zerbi – Milone” middle school and the city hall. The project’s goal is to create unity by reimagining a single square that not only retains these two poles but also becomes a true “anthropological place,” the heart of life in Palmi. This new space will foster a sense of belonging and identity, promoting cultural and social enrichment for the community.

An “anthropological place,” as defined by Marc Augé, is a space with cultural and identity significance for the people who live in or visit it. It is a relational space, where individuals can meet and share common experiences. Such a place becomes a point of reference for both citizens and tourists, an attraction that contributes to enriching the historical urban fabric of the city. Once redeveloped, the new squares will become central hubs within the urban landscape, playing a crucial role in the social and commercial life of the local community.

These public squares are designed not as mere empty urban spaces, but as open areas whose importance is accentuated by the surrounding building facades. They will be capable of hosting various temporary urban functions, such as events, fairs, and cultural gatherings, becoming key meeting points and places of social interaction for the residents.
